As a small boy, I loved watching birds and airplanes fly through the sky and often dreamed that I, too, could soar through the air above the tree tops. An idea by itself can give you a temporary feeling of inspiration, but an intense burning desire is necessary to overcome the obstacles that stand between you and the accomplishment of your goal. What began as just an idea that I could fly, became a desire that burned from deep within. What burning desire stands behind your goal?
Individuals who have a burning desire are often referred to as driven individuals because they are continually driving forward toward their goal. In an interview, when Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked how he had reached top success in bodybuilding, Hollywood, and business; he responded with one word: drive. Call it what you like: burning desire, drive, hunger, achievement, or motivation, this is the starting point for all achievement.
All great achievement begins as an idea, but when mixed with desire, those ideas are transformed into goals that are in time accomplished. You create that desire around your goals by visualizing yourself having achieved the goal. As you continue to regularly visualize the realization of your goal, you ignite a burning desire that will provide the fuel needed to manifest it as a reality in your life.
Begin by reviewing your list of goals or bucket list. I find it helpful to segment my goals to correspond with the following different areas of life:
At an early age, I formed a desire that burned from deep within. Some day I would fly. Today I am a licensed pilot and have been for twelve years. Had that life goal not been backed by a burning desire, the obstacles of fear and finances would have kept me grounded. Spend time creating a burning desire behind your goal, and no hurdle will be too high for you to soar over.
